As a STEM Ambassador Luke loves encouraging young people to consider engineering, showing them how exciting it can be and generally having fun. He is also a Bloodhound Ambassador and especially loves the mayhem of a classroom full of youngster making and testing their balloon cars for the distance and speed challenges.

His STEM activities also include talking about his career.  Having done both an apprenticeship and a degree, Luke is well placed to talk about the differences and help inform young people as they start to make their education and career choices. He also talks about all aspects of engineering and is a passionate ambassador for the Bloodhound SSC world land speed record attempt, talking about the supersonic engineering adventure.

Luke’s home garage is full of both stomp and compressed air rocket launchers and other fun items; visitors are regularly given opportunity to beat Luke’s distance record of 75m with a rocket made from a single sheet of A4 paper. See below for more details:

Working for Cummins has given Luke the opportunity to get involved with the Greenpower electrical racing cars for schools; in the 2014 /15 season Luke supported a local school in Darlington with two cars. Luke had a lot of fun working with the students and was really proud of theirs efforts, especially when they won two first prizes. Preparations and improvements have already started on the cars for the 2015/16 season.
